Early Oak at Wysdom Hall is an antiques dealer specialising in early English oak furniture. Based in the beautiful Medieval village of Burford in Oxfordshire, the brand takes its name from the iconic Wysdom Hall in which it lives. Studio Folk were commissioned to create an original brand identity for Early Oak at Wysdom Hall to include a brand logo, printed collateral, signage and product photography. The branding is inspired by early English oak antiques, wood carvings, and 17th—18th Century typography and design, given a modern interpretation. To create the logo we worked with Californian-based woodcut and scratchboard artist Steven Noble, using early English oak wood carvings as our inspiration. The logo represents Simon Wysdom, the architect of many buildings in Burford, including Wysdom Hall.
We used traditional letterpress techniques to print the brand collateral (including business cards, letterheads, envelopes, carbon copy invoice books, and product tickets) printing in dark green and antique gold onto heavyweight Colorplan papers for a tactile and timeless feel. Shop signage was hand painted in gold leaf.
